Analysis of Eight Sensors for Automobiles by Hubei Bonner Electronics Technology Co., Ltd.

Sensor Diagram

The eight automobile sensors we mentioned include: air flow sensor, intake pressure sensor, throttle position sensor, water temperature sensor, camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, knock sensor, oxygen sensor. Let Xiaobian briefly introduce these sensors.

1. Air flow sensor

At present, hot-wire air flow sensor and hot-film air flow sensor are mainly used, which are generally installed between air filter and throttle. The main function is to calculate the air flow rate per unit time, which is one of the basic signals to determine the fuel injection rate. When the air flow meter fails, the real air intake can not be detected by the ECU, which leads to the unbalance of the mixture, resulting in many faults, such as unstable idling speed, engine weakness, high fuel consumption, excessive exhaust, and sometimes shifting and flameout.

2. Intake Pressure Sensor

Intake pressure sensor, referred to as MAP resistive intake pressure sensor and capacitive intake pressure sensor, is installed on the intake manifold. It is usually integrated with intake temperature sensor to detect the absolute pressure of intake manifold. According to the engine speed and load, the change of absolute pressure in manifold can be detected, and then converted into signal voltage and sent to engine control unit (ECU), EC. U controls the basic fuel injection according to the signal voltage. When the intake pressure sensor fails, the following symptoms will appear: engine can not work properly, idle speed is unstable, often flameout, can not start, and fuel consumption is alarming.

3. Throttle Position Sensor

Throttle position sensor is divided into contact type throttle position sensor, linear variable resistance type throttle position sensor and comprehensive throttle position sensor. The throttle position sensor is mounted on the throttle to detect the throttle opening. Through the linkage of lever mechanism and throttle, it reflects the different working conditions of the engine. The throttle position sensor can input the electronic control unit (ECU) after testing the engine under different working conditions, so as to control the different amount of fuel injection. When the throttle position sensor fails, the engine computer can not receive the throttle opening signal correctly, which results in the inaccurate adjustment of fuel injection and ignition time. The throttle position sensor failures are usually the idle switch short-circuit or open circuit; or the throttle position sensor is not properly installed and adjusted so that the idle switch does not close when the throttle is fully closed, or the idle switch is in the throttle. The sliding contact of the internal linear variable resistance is not in good contact, and the output signal of the throttle position sensor has intermittent interruption during the process of the throttle from full closure to full opening. When the throttle position sensor fails, the following symptoms will appear on the automobile: the engine idling is abnormal (such as too high or too low idling speed, unstable idling speed, easy to quench idling) or the engine acceleration is abnormal (engine trembling when accelerating, acceleration response delay, etc.), sometimes it will also cause intermittent jitter and other phenomena in the engine operation.

4. Water temperature sensor

Water temperature sensor is actually a semiconductor thermistor, the lower the temperature, the greater the resistance; conversely, the smaller the resistance, installed on the cylinder block or cylinder head of the water jacket, and directly contact with cooling water. It is used to measure the temperature of engine cooling water. According to the water temperature signal, the electronic control unit corrects the fuel injection and ignition timing, and installs the water temperature alarm lamp on the dashboard. When the water temperature sensor fails (usually bad contact, short circuit, circuit breaking, but most of them are bad contact), the phenomenon is ON gear, the engine fault lamp is always on, the water temperature always shows the maximum of 120 degrees Celsius, the engine is limited to twist and weak, and the detection fault code is P003D. When the water temperature sensor fails, the car will have the phenomena of difficult cold start, abnormal oil supply, weak acceleration and tempering.
